Roger Williams in an Elevator

Roger Williams in an Elevator shows varying journeys to achieve freedom. When the "Pilgrim Building" is partially destroyed, people are trapped inside of eight elevators: yelling, accounting, liberty, watery, fiery, falling, sharing, and hidden. These different elevator communities create their own rules and freedoms.

Kate Odyssey, the protagonist of Roger Williams in an Elevator, is scared of elevators. Even so, while being trapped inside of the building, she tries to help the different elevator communities. As a descendant of Roger Williams, Kate has activities and beliefs that are connected to Roger Williams, his search for freedom, and his legacy.

Most of the events in Roger Williams in an Elevator happen in the state of Rhode Island. Roger Williams statues and other historic items are encountered by the protagonist in her journey within the partially fallen building.

The readers of Roger Williams in an Elevator will have an enhanced journey when they encounter twenty-three photos of Roger Williams statues, historic items, and the Rhode Island State House. The impact of Roger Williams on our current society is seen in this novel through the actions of the characters, dream/reality connections, symbolic content, words, images, and the use of sixty-nine quotations from a variety of sources.
